1. What kind of toy is Woody?
A cowboy doll
He is a pull-string sheriff whose voice box recites stock lines about snakes in boots and poisoned waterholes. The first drafts made him a ventriloquist's dummy, and an early story reel in which he bullied the other toys nearly got the film shut down.
-
2. What is the name of the new space ranger toy?
Buzz Lightyear
The name is a nod to the astronaut Buzz Aldrin, after earlier drafts called the character Lunar Larry. His green and purple color scheme came from Lasseter's favorite color and his wife's, and his wings and laser are the features Woody cannot compete with.
-
3. Who owns Woody and Buzz?
Andy
Andy Davis gets Buzz at a birthday party moved up a week because the family is about to move house, which is why the army men stage a reconnaissance of the presents with a baby monitor. The move is what the plot runs on: a toy left behind is lost for good.

4. Who voices Woody?
Tom Hanks
Hanks was Lasseter's first choice, after the animators tested the character by cutting his dialogue from Turner and Hooch to an animated Woody. He has done every Toy Story since, and his brother Jim Hanks voices Woody in most of the toys and games.
-
5. Who voices Buzz?
Tim Allen
Allen was riding high on Home Improvement and got the part after Billy Crystal turned it down, a decision Crystal has called his biggest mistake; Pixar made it up to him with Mike Wazowski in Monsters, Inc. Allen plays Buzz completely straight.
-
6. What does Buzz believe he is when he first arrives?
A real space ranger
He introduces himself as a space ranger of the Universe Protection Unit, reports that his ship has crash-landed, and treats his cardboard box as a craft in need of repairs. The illusion lasts until he sees a Buzz Lightyear commercial on Sid's television.
-
7. What is Buzz's famous catchphrase?
To infinity and beyond!
He shouts it before leaping off the bedpost and bouncing around the room on a ball, a loop of track and a toy plane, which Woody writes off as falling with style. By the end Buzz knows exactly what he is, and claims the falling-with-style line as his own.
-
8. What is the destructive boy next door called?
Sid
Sid Phillips blows up a Combat Carl with a firework in his first scene, and his bedroom is full of mutant toys of his own making, which turn out to be gentle. The toys break their first rule to save Buzz, coming alive in front of him to tell him to play nice.
-
9. What is Sid's dog called?
Scud
Scud is a bull terrier who treats whatever Sid hands him as a chew toy, and the moving-day chase ends with him stuck in a tangle of cars at an intersection. Buster is Andy's puppy in the sequel, and Slink is Slinky Dog.
-
10. Which restaurant has an arcade filled with space-themed games?
Pizza Planet
The restaurant has a rocket for an entrance and a battered delivery pickup that has been hidden in nearly every Pixar film since as an in-joke. Woody only means to use the trip to get Buzz back to Andy, and ends up losing them both to the claw machine.
-
11. What do the little green aliens in the claw machine worship?
The Claw
'The claw is our master,' the three-eyed aliens chant, and it chooses who will go and who will stay, which is how Buzz ends up in Sid's hands. The squeeze-toy aliens were a one-scene gag that the sequels turned into regulars.
-
12. What kind of toy is Hamm?
A piggy bank
Hamm is a pink piggy bank with a cork in his belly and the voice of John Ratzenberger, Cliff from Cheers, whom Pixar went on to cast in every one of its features for decades. He and Mr. Potato Head supply most of the room's sarcasm.
-
13. What kind of dinosaur is Rex?
A Tyrannosaurus rex
Rex is a green plastic Tyrannosaurus who frets that his roar is not scary enough, voiced by Wallace Shawn, Vizzini from The Princess Bride. The joke is a predator's shape with a worrier's personality, and he is the first to panic at every new arrival.
-
14. Who wrote and performed You've Got a Friend in Me for the film?
Randy Newman
Newman wrote three songs for the film, sung over the action rather than by the toys, since Lasseter did not want a musical. The song lost the Oscar to Colors of the Wind from Pocahontas, and Newman waited until Monsters, Inc. for his first win.
-
15. What animation milestone did Toy Story achieve?
The first fully computer-animated feature film
Pixar rendered it on a farm of Sun workstations, and it ran a tight 81 minutes. It became the biggest film of 1995 at the American box office, Lasseter got a Special Achievement Oscar, and it was the first animated film nominated for its screenplay.
